EXCELLENT Based on 33 reviews Michaela S2024-09-06Verified Perfectly organized safari with unforgettable impressions We organized and booked our safari trip in Tanzania through African Jackal Tours & Safari. We were absolutely satisfied and can highly recommend the agency. We planned our vacation about 5 months before the trip. Communication with the owner Magreth via email worked perfectly. She listened to our wishes and suggested changes, recommended very nice hotels, and planned the itinerary according to our needs. We visited 4 national parks and stayed in 4 different hotels. She also had an optimal solution for us due to a flight postponement to Zanzibar and organized a tour of Arusha for us at short notice, including a local market and lunch. Thank you for that! Our guide and driver Charles, with whom we traveled for 4 days, gave us very good insights into the country, the wildlife and the culture of the people. He had an explanation for every question we asked. He also got along well with our 11-year-old son. His friendliness, his humor and his reliability characterized him in addition to his extensive knowledge. We really enjoyed the four days of safari and took many impressions home with us.If we travel to Tanzania again - which we plan to do 😊 - we will definitely book again through African Jackal Tours & Safari. Marloes P2024-02-17Verified Perfect experience Kilimanjaro, Lemosho 8 days! We recently completed our 8 day Lemosho route with African Jackal, and we are extremely satisfied with the organisation. Margreth made sure everything was planned perfectly according to our schedule. She even called when we were in the mountain to check if we were comfortable. We rented some gear, which served us well (especially keeping us warm). We were more than content with the whole team that came along: our guide, Bakari, who was very experienced and managed to keep us motivated. Also Alphonce, our assistant guide, who was very helpful and was always up for a joke or a song. Both of them at times even carried our daypacks for us when we got tired. Also we were very happy with Kulwa, our amazing chef, who always cooked very tasty and big (!) meals for us, and who happened to be the most positive person you'll ever meet. My friend had her birthday on the mountain, and the whole team made sure it was a memorable day with singing, dancing and even cake! African Jackal created an unforgettable experience for us, we would 100% recommend their services if you're looking for a beautiful en lasting experience! sjoerd m2024-01-11Verified Great experience through Serengeti and climbing Ol doinyo Lengai Great experience. Me and my girlfriend had a custom made trip, leaving from a small town near lake victoria. Margreth organised everything for us and we went with Norbert the guide and Tade the cook. We traveled through the Serengti to mount Ol doinyo Lengai to climb it. The food was excellent, consisting of a three course meal for dinner and also a delicious breakfast every day. Norbert was the guide and also drove us through the Serengti telling us about all the wonderful wildlife. He spotted a leoppard which is rare. He also waited for us at the bottom of the mountain and slept in the car in case we had to come back early. All together an unforgettable experience! Would recommend. noemi2023-08-21Verified 3 Days Serengeti with African Jackal African Jackal has been recommended to me by a friend and I would 100% recommend going on a safari with them to anyone! We stayed 2 nights at Lobo campsite and were astonished by the service they provided. When we got there, our tents (very new ones) have already been put up. We enjoyed very good food and by looking at the other groups that also stayed at the campsite we felt like we definitely had the best tour company. Our Guide Norbert was very experienced and good at spotting animals! We had amazing encounters with Leopards, Lions, Baby Elephants and many more. Often, we where the first ones to see them before other cars arrived. He used time in a very efficient way, so we were able to see so many things without ever having the feeling of beeing in a rush. In addition to my previous evaluation I would particularly like to issue my thanks to our guides from African Jackal for their prudent and considerate way of driving. This is especially true for the National Parcs, where roads may sometimes be quite rough. You did a great job! thierryd8152023-02-16Verified A very chichifoofoo service It is with great pleasure I write this review as I contacted African Jackal from USA to plan my visits to Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Park. The agency was referred to me by my friend Andrew who is Tanzanian. When I contacted the manager Magreth she planned the entire trip for me. She delivered an excellent service above and beyond. I booked my tour with private chef and it was perfect. The tour guides Charles and James were extremely knowledgeable and funny. It is without hesitation that I recommend this agency for your safari and others to anyone as you will be in good hands and not disappointed. Trust me, coming from a chef who has worked only on 5 stars hotels in the past 15 years. All tours were very Chichifoofoo Thank you again for your entire assistance Magreth Thierry irv r2023-01-21Verified Family trek up Kili + safari Several months ago i contacted Magreth at African Jackal on the reference of a close friend who had a very successful trek up Mt Kilimanjaro. Magreth immediately got to work helping me arrange a trek and a safari for me and my 3 adult kids, and a buddy of mine. I had done Kili before but only to the crater's rim, Stella Point. That was 4.5 years ago during which time I had developed adult-onset asthma. My training went very well, at 600' altitude, but I remembered the difficulties I'd had then and was more concerned now that I was 70. I told Magreth about this and she, and the main guide, Dickson, were prepared for me. The kids had no problems but it was definitely work for me. We did the 8 day, 7 night Lemosho trail. The food was prepared in sufficient quantities and various formats to accommodate a 5-person group with one vegetarian, one who could not process carbs and 3 non-red-meat eaters. Good Luck the chef met all our needs deliciously. Best soups you'll ever have!!!!When on summit night things got tough for me, Dickson and his fellow guides slowed our ascent and ensured that I got to see Uhuru peak on a clear, sunny, and actually kind of warm-ish day with my kids all around me supporting me every step of the way. THE BEST MOST MEANINGFUL MOMENT OF MY LIFE AS A PARENT.We followed this experience with an excellent 4-day safari, one at Ngorongoro crater, the rest in the Serengeti. We flew from the Serengeti to JRO to catch our planes home, seamlessly, because Magreth made sure to make the perfect arrangements. Use African Jackal for whatever your Tanzania travel are. She and her team are honest brokers of excellent adventures. Puck B2021-12-24Verified Fantastic experience! Magreth arranged a personalized program for us to climb the kilimanjaro and go on a beautiful safari after. The tour guides were wonderful and the program was very perfectly planned. Some tiny issues we encountered on the way were solved inmediately and in good manner. We definitely recommand African Jackal if you’re looking for a wonderful experience of Tanzania!! Eckehart Schöll2021-12-19Verified 10-day stay in Tanzania included 6-day tour to Kilimanjaro and subsequent 3-day guided safari My 10-day stay in Tanzania included a 6-day tour to Kilimanjaro via Machame route and a subsequent 3-day guided safari through the Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Manyara national parks.I was assigned to Dickson and his crew on the tour to Uhuru Peak. Dickson knows the mountain and its special features like no other. Unfavorable weather conditions are just as normal at these altitudes as altitude-related health problems. Still, I never felt like I was at greater risk. The physical performance of the porters can only be measured if you have seen it with your own eyes. On difficult passages such as the Barranco Wall at 4000 m, they balance the loads on their heads, so that one becomes dizzy while watching. For the three-day safari I was assigned Charles Lyimo, who steered the 4 × 4 Toyota Landcruiser confidently through river channels, washed-out bumps and steep mountain passages. The insights into the wild life of Africa were indescribable. The end of my trip was a visit to a Masai village. To meet these proud people, who still lead a nomadic life, catapults the viewer back into another time. Their singing and dancing have strength and uniqueness. Still, you can't help but get the impression that this world is dying. My deep thanks to Charles, who gave me insights into the ethnic world as well as the flora and fauna of East Africa. Finally, I would like to thank Magreth and Martin for the extremely careful and professional organization of my trip. Joost B2021-03-23Verified Professional, affordable and generally good people Though I realize it's hard for me to compare the different companies and their guides, I'm strongly convinced Dickson and his crew are one of the best out there. Due to their experience and excellent preparation, it felt like a cakewalk (up until the summit day). In addition to their expertise, the guides and porters also make for great company. Their prizes are also very hard to beat, by the way.
Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on your activities.
For wildlife safaris, the dry seasons from June to October offer excellent game viewing, including the Great Migration in the Serengeti.
January to February is ideal for witnessing the calving season. For Mount Kilimanjaro treks, the best conditions are from January to March and June to October.
Beach lovers visiting Zanzibar will enjoy the dry months of December to February and June to October.
Obtaining a Tanzania visa is simple and convenient. You can apply online via the Tanzania eVisa Portal, at a Tanzanian embassy, or on arrival at major entry points such as airports and border crossings.
Requirements typically include a valid passport with at least six months’ validity, a completed application form, and payment of the visa fee.
A single-entry tourist visa costs $50 for most nationalities, while US citizens pay $100 for a multiple-entry visa.
The eVisa process usually takes about 10 business days for approval.
